A really good way to rid your yard or patio of mosquitoes is to use a mosquito trap such as the SkeeterVac or the DynaTrap. These traps start killing mosquitoes immediately and over a few weeks will rid the area of mosquitoes. But the SkeeterVac and the DynaTrap work in different ways.
Mosquitoes are attracted to the carbon dioxide their prey exhales and the body heat of their prey. They also visually locate us by identifying areas of high visual contrast, for example, when our clothing is a different color from our surrounds.
The SkeeterVac burns propane gas to give off carbon dioxide and heat. Its markings are black and white, providing an attractive contrast for mosquitoes. It also draws mosquitoes to their death with a light. If you want, you can add a bait such as FineTune Bait to attract mosquitoes even more powerfully. When they near the trap, mosquitoes are vacuumed into an easy-to-clean drawer. There are two models: one covers one acre, the other covers 1.2 acres.
The Dyna-Trap uses an ultraviolet light to attract mosquitoes and other insect pests. It also produces carbon dioxide. A strong but quiet fan runs all the time to pull insects into the trap and kill them. The trap is easy to empty and clean. The DynaTrap will clear approximately one half acre, or a circle with a 332 foot diameter, of flying insects.
